Oklahoma City in midst of largest street repair initiative in history
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Better Streets, Safer City initiative was approved by voters last year. It provides improvements to city streets, sidewalks and trails through bonds and a temporary penny sales tax.
"We're putting an unprecedented amount of total dollars, $800 million into street repairs. That's the cost of MAPS3. That's as large or larger than what MAPS4 will be,” said Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt.
Saudi Arabia confirms death of Jamal Khashoggi; 18 people detained
Saudi Arabia has confirmed the death of missing Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in an announcement on Saudi state TV.
The Saudis have set up a commission that will investigate Khashoggi's death and will have one month to release a report, according to state TV. The commission will consist of national security officials, the foreign ministry and the interior ministry.
OKC Streetcar stuck Downtown
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Streetcar is stuck downtown near Reno & EK Gaylord during testing.
City official Kristy Yager said the pantograph (the arm on top of the streetcar that connects it to the cable) was up when it went under the bridge.
Why or how it was up is still being investigated.
Judge sentences Tulsa dentist to life in prison for toddler’s death
OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma man found guilty of murdering a 19-month-old child and trying to hire someone to kill the boy’s mother has been sentenced to life in prison.
"He tried to hire someone to kill me, so that's worrisome,” said Roxanne Randall.
Tulsa dentist Bert Franklin was found guilty of that, and first-degree murder in the death of Randall’s son, Lincoln Lewis.
Porch pirate stole from the wrong man
CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – An alleged porch pirate was caught on camera stealing a package off a Mustang porch and admitted to stealing a cross bow from the pickup of Canadian County Sheriff Chris West.
Fred Lee Elliott is jail tonight for these incidents, but he has been arrested before, even serving time in prison for domestic abuse, possession of stolen property and escaping confinement.
Man severely beaten at Tuttle party, officials say
TUTTLE, Okla. – Authorities said a man has been severely beaten at a Tuttle party with underage drinking.
It happened when the 20-year-old man told someone to leave after they drove through his fence. That’s when several other vehicles arrived.
Deputies said Blake Hill and Ethan Calhoun, both 18, along with Lane Vanschuyver, 20, and a teen boy under 18, went towards the victim.
